How to Use Your Gaiam Total Body Balance Ball Kit
There are fitness ball exercises to tone and strengthen all of the body’s major muscle group. Many are done lying down, which somehow makes them feel quite easy.
Some fitness balls, including the Gaiam Balance Ball, can also be utilized as a seat. Used this way, your core, thighs, and abs will get a passive toning workout. This is due to the slight shifting of position required to balance on the ball. Regularly sitting on a fitness ball will also improve your posture. I use mine while working on my computer and watching the television.
The resistance band that comes with the Gaiam Total Body Balance Ball Kit will allow you to perform strength/isometric exercises that target all of the body’s major muscle groups. The band adds another dimension to an already very effective workout, allowing the muscles to be targeted in a different way.
The band’s resistance is classed as medium. By repositioning your grip on it and moving your hands further apart, you can lighten the workload. By holding the band with your hand’s closer together, you can increase the resistance for a more intense workout. If, after a while, using the band becomes easy, buy another one to use with it. This is called stacking. Alternatively, buy a stronger band.
Featuring routines suitable for both beginners and advanced level exercisers, the companion DVD has a total run time of 105 minutes. It contains an introductory segment explaining the moves and how to use the ball and the band, plus two workouts.
The longer of the workouts, Total Body Balance Ball, consists of 3 x 20-minute segments that focus on the upper body, the lower body, and the abs, respectively. The shorter workout, Balance Ball Express, targets the same areas, but each workout is just 10 minutes long. Having access to both a longer and a shorter workout will enable you to do the longer one when you have the time, and the shorter one on those days you want to work out, but have limited free time.
Led by fitness trainer, Tanja Djelevic, who is likable, but not perky to the point of being annoying, the moves are well-explained. Using the balance ball alone, or the ball plus the resistance band, the workouts include a range of strength, yoga and Pilates exercises that target various muscle groups.
Also included in the kit is an air pump for easy inflation of the ball. Follow the simple instructions, and you will be able to inflate your balance ball to the correct size and be balancing or exercising on it within a few minutes of unboxing it.
