ProGear 100S Exercise Bike Overview and Key Features

The theProGear 100S Exercise Bike Indoor Training Cycle has the feel of a real road bike.  You can pedal forward and in reverse.  You can also pedal standing up to increase the intensity and simulate biking uphill.  The resistance levels cater to everyone from newbies to experienced cyclists.

The bike has a powder-coated steel frame.  The construction and finish make for an exceptionally sturdy and durable bike.

A console displays workout stats including Distance, Time, Speed, and Calories Burned, to help you track your progress.

Your stats will be displayed on the monitor, one at a time.  If preferred, you can activate Scan node to automatically rotate through your stats, with each displayed for a few seconds.

Pulse Sensors set into the handlebars enable you to track your heart rate.

The bike’s ergonomic seat is cushioned to increase the comfort of workouts.

Its position can be adjusted to make the seat higher or lower and to bring it further forward or back.

The adjustments are implemented by turning a knob then pulling it forward to change the position of the pole.  You will then be able to reposition the seat and lock it into place by inserting the locking pin into any of the pre-set holes, before tightening it.

As is typical with exercise bikes, some people will find the seat comfortable, while others won’t.

If you fall into the latter group, using a bicycle seat cover or wearing padded cycling shorts can make for more comfortable workouts.  Alternatively, you can place a folded towel or cushion on the bike’s seat.

The handlebars of the ProGear 100S Exercise Bike allow for many different grip positions.  The finish makes for comfortable slip-free workouts, even if your hands sweat a lot.

The pedals’ plastic toe cages and straps will hold your feet securely in place without fear of them slipping.

Plastic stabilizer caps on the rear base provide stability.  The caps can be adjusted to level the bike level if the surface of your floor is uneven.

Small transport wheels built into the front base enable the bike to easily be moved to another location.  Just grasp the handlebars, push them downwards to tip the back upwards, then wheel it away.

The ProGear 100S Exercise Bike Indoor Training Cycle comes partially assembled.  Completing the job takes most people between 30 and 60 minutes.

The bike has an integrated water bottle holder to provide access to water or an energy drink during workouts.

The ProGear 100S comes with a 1-year warranty.

ProGear 100S Pros

  • Great value

The performance of the ProGear 100S is as good as or better than many more expensive spin bikes.ProGear 100S

  • Sturdy and Durable

The bike is robust and resilient, and it should give you years of trouble-free service.

  • Smooth & Quiet

ProGear 100S workouts are smooth.  The pedal motion is fluid and consistent.

The noise produced by the bike during workouts consists of a gentle whooshing sound and the soft clicking of the chain moving around the sprockets.

This is not intrusive, and it should not annoy you or your housemates or stop you from watching television or listening to music.

  • Fully adjustable seat

The seat can be moved backward or forwards and its height can be changed.  This makes the bike suitable for short and tall people.

  • Chain drive

A chain-driven system provides a road bike feel.

  • Stabilizer caps

Stabilizer caps prevent the bike from moving around or rocking.

  • Computer

While basic, the onboard computer provides enough stats to enable you to monitor your workouts and set new goals.

  • Dual direction

Along with forward peddling, the bike can be peddled in reverse.  This feature provides variety and helps to keep you challenged and target different muscles.

  • Variable resistance

Changing the resistance is easy and the adjustments can be made in small increments.

  • Easy assembly

Assembling the bike is a quick and easy process.  You will be able to do it on your own, but having a second person to help will speed up the process.

  • Transport wheels

Transport wheels make it easy to relocate the bike if required.

ProGear 100S Cons

  • Flywheel

The cast iron inertia flywheel has a chrome rim.  At 22 lbs it will suit most users; however, it is not weighty enough to withstand extremely intense and extended spin workouts.

  • Fixed handlebars

The position of the handlebars is not adjustable.  This limits the bike’s use to a certain extent, but it will still suit people of varying heights.

  • Doesn’t sync with fitness apps

There’s no provision to upload your workout stats to a fitness app.

  • No backlight

The bike’s monitor isn’t backlit, making it difficult to view your stats in a dimly lit room.

  • Heart rate monitor accuracy

Pulse rate sensors are not that accurate.  For accurate tracking, use a chest strap monitor.

  • Water bottle holder position

Accessing a drink during workouts would be easier if the water bottle holder was on the side of the bike instead of the front.

ProGear 100S Exercise Bike Summary

Spin bikes provide the means of getting a low-impact cardio workout that will tone your lower body, improve your fitness and burn calories.

This type of bike comes in a range of price brackets, and a higher price doesn’t always indicate better performance or quality.

With the ProGear 100S, you will be getting a great bike at a great price.

While it has a few minor negatives, its positives far outweigh these.

This particular model would be an excellent buy for anyone looking to purchase a durable, reasonably priced spin bike capable of providing regular moderately intense spin sessions.

While not a gym quality bike, it has everything most people will need, plus a few extras not always included in exercise equipment in this price bracket, including a monitor for tracking your progress, and variable resistance which will allow you to increase the workout intensity as your fitness improves.
